The Whey Consortium Co Ltd, founded in 2003 as a limited company by Steve Gardener and Mike Betty,
is devoted to bringing you the staples of the bodybuilding and strength athlete’s supplemental
needs at bargain prices. Steve is well-known as something of a grip strength fiend (with the 2006
British Grip Championships 1st place under his belt) and Mike is making his way slowly but surely
through the ranks of strongman competitions.
What we do
As one of the first of the bulk sellers we used the high street supermarkets ‘own label’ principle -
there will be little or none at all of any other companies products. We sell what you need -
aiming to offer the products that have been proven again and again to work. We market with little
or no fuss in a way that will, for as long as we can, keep the price right down. By doing away
with 4-colour labels, pro bodybuilders promoting our products and other unnecessary frills we
offer what you need at prices you can afford.
How we differ from other similar companies
Take a look at the number of competitions, athletes and events they sponsor. Ask the owners and employees
how many events they compete in never mind watch. Mike, myself and those we associate with all compete.
This means we have a hands on understanding of your needs as they are our needs to. Consider how much
event support we ploughed back into the sport the year we started, last year and this year. Right from
the outset we have put money back in. Athletes we help have had expenses covered, events have had
prizes to offer and this year we managed to put on two events. First was the British Iron Grip open
class followed later by a novice strongman event which raised money for a local school. Several strength
displays and two or more fund raisers for the local community mean we are putting money, time and
our own effort back in.
One special way we have managed to help both ourselves and others is the strongman equipment we have
at our base in Gloucester. Rather than pay ourselves massive salaries instead we invested in gym equipment,
weights and stones. To the best of our knowledge there is no other strongman camp within 40-miles or more.
One regular comes for event training from Liverpool (2-3 hours drive away). While the gym is not open
to the public many athletes have asked and trained there.
The future
Like any company we aim to expand. We want to add more to the range (including some 'stoneman' logo'd
clothing this year), get agents and affiliates buying and selling our range (under own label if so desired).
We want to sponsor and help more athletes. We will continue to support and compete in events. We think we
are one of the few grassroots style companies that are doing this day in and day out. With your help we
can help promote the iron game, keep mass market prices down, continue to supply products that work and
best of all - help you.
